AR preview apps all promise the same magic: your product, sitting in the customer's room, through their phone. The apps themselves differ in the places that actually decide whether any of it works. The demo is not one of those places.
I am not handing you a ranked list of seven apps I have not tested on your products. That would be fiction, and you would figure it out the first time a shopper complained. Instead, here are the seven things worth comparing across AR preview options, because these are what separate an AR product preview app for ecommerce that converts from one that just demos well.
One, WebAR or native app. WebAR runs in the browser with no download, and that single missing download step is worth more than every other feature combined. If the app needs a native download, most shoppers will not bother. They just will not. Two, iOS and Android parity. Apple AR needs USDZ, Android needs GLB, and an app covering one side is selling to half your traffic. Three, load speed on mid-range phones, not flagships. Your customers do not all own this year's phone. Four, placement accuracy. A sofa preview that drifts across the room is worse than no preview. Five, how the app gets its models. Some want you to upload your own GLB or USDZ. Some bundle generation. Know which labor you are signing up for before you commit, because it is very different labor. Six, analytics. Does it tell you how many shoppers actually opened the AR view, or are you flying blind. Seven, pricing at your SKU count. AR apps love per-model or per-view pricing that looks cheap at ten products and terrifying at a thousand.
That is the comparison that matters. Any AR try-on app for online stores can show you a beautiful demo. The seven questions above are what the demo will never tell you, and they are what you will be living with six months from now, long after the sales call is a memory.
