Single-photo 3D had its moment, and honestly it was a good moment. But the newer trick is video-to-3D: film a short walkaround of your product, upload the clip, get back a better model. The quality jump is real enough to change which tool I would recommend.
Why it works is not mysterious. A video hands the generator dozens of angles instead of one. Better geometry. Fewer hallucinated details. Textures that survive a shopper zooming in. For products with depth, interiors, or backsides that matter, this is not a small upgrade. It is the difference between "looks right" and "looks right from every angle." And shoppers spin things. They will find the ugly angle.
The workflow is seller-friendly, which surprised me. Prop your phone on a stack of books. Rotate the product, or walk around it. Keep the lighting even. Upload. Thirty seconds of footage beats a lot of expensive alternatives. Keep clips short, though. Fifteen to thirty seconds of steady footage beats two minutes of shaky video, every time. The generator wants coverage, not cinema. Slow, even movement. And wipe the lens first. A smudged phone camera quietly ruins more 3D scans than any software limitation I have seen, and nobody talks about it.
Where this gets interesting is the apps. Most photo to 3D scanner app iOS Android options are video-first by design: you film the walkaround inside the app and it builds the model. So evaluating video-to-3D often means evaluating a mobile app to create 3D product models. Ask app-shaped questions. How long does processing take. Where does the model live afterward. What export formats do you actually get. And the big one, the one that matters: can you get the model OUT to your store, or does it live in the app forever.
Watch the same fundamentals as always. GLB and USDZ output. Per-model pricing that makes sense for your catalog. Honest quality on your materials. Video input does not fix a tool with bad texture handling. It just gives a good tool more to work with, and a bad tool more rope.
