Downloading a scanner app takes thirty seconds. Knowing which one to download and what to do after takes a little longer. This is the longer part. Worth it, I think.

All real. All widely used. Most have free tiers. Download two, not six. You will learn more from scanning the same product in two apps than from collecting six icons on your home screen. Before you scan, do the unglamorous prep, the part everyone skips and then complains about. Wipe the lens. Find even lighting, near a big window or under two cheap LED panels, and kill the harsh overhead spot that blows out highlights. Put the product on a plain background. These three steps improve your scan more than any app choice will. People love to blame the app for what was actually a lighting problem. The app was fine. The lighting was a crime scene.

Then scan badly on purpose. Your first scan will be bad. That is the tuition, and everyone pays it. Walk too fast, watch the model fall apart, and you will understand what the app needs: slow, even movement, overlapping coverage, no sudden moves. The second scan is usually twice as good. By the fifth, you have a workflow. Workflows are what scale. Talent does not scale. Workflows do.

After scanning comes the part people skip: export and inspect on a desktop. Look at the model on a big screen before it goes anywhere near your store. Check the backside. The bottom. The textures up close. What looks fine on a phone screen can look rough at product-page size. Catch it now, not after a customer screenshots it. Because they will screenshot it.
